I recently had to replace my old, loud, and inefficient harbor freight dust collector after a few years of use. After some looking around and talking with the guys at my local Woodcraft store, I pulled the trigger on the Laguna B-Flux. It checked most of my boxes. My old dust collector was fairly loud. I needed to wear ear protection when I ran it.
The B-Flux on the other hand, I can stand next to it and have a conversation. When I first turned it on while connected to my Laguna bandsaw, I could hear and see it just cleaning it out.
Apparently, my old dust collector left a lot to be desired and a lot of sawdust behind. With a 1-micron filter attached to it, the B-Flux is pretty good at keeping the air cleaner. My old dust collector basically had a cheap cloth bag attached to it that worked for collection and filtering.
I like how it has the knob at the top of it too to quickly clean the filter and not making a mess in doing so. They say to do one turn with each use to help keep it clean.
The B-Flux is only a single stage dust collector. I wanted a two-stage dust collector, but anything from the factory as a two-stage was a lot more expensive.
The finer dust moves on into the dust collectors bag. To add my second stage, I got a special cyclone lid from Woodcraft and a metal trashcan from the local big box store. To keep it mobile I placed the can on a quick and dirty mobile cart. More info can be found here. If you have any questions that I might be able to answer, comment below or send me a message. P|Flux: 1 Cyclone Dust Collector
I was hoping to get some opinions on 2 dust collectors I'm looking at purchase for my garage. I'm looking at the Laguna 1. It will be in my garage. I'm going to get getting a table saw around the same time. The dust collector will be used for the table saw, router and my kapex. All my other festool tools I'll have hooked up to the CT26e. I don't have a jointer or planer yet.
I would say eventually I'll add those. I'm the only one who uses this, so it would most likely be just 1 tool at a time being used. Any thoughts would be appreciated. The garage is wired forbut I'll probably have to add another circuit. Thanks everybody!Subtenant not paying rent

I just bought one a few weeks ago and have been very happy with it. Relatively quiet, good build quality, good performance, sturdy, and great support from Oneida.
I'll check that one out as well. Something to consider when comparing dust collectors is how much you anticipate moving it around your garage. What I like about the Mini Gorilla is, due to its tripod design, it is very stable, has a small footprint, and is very easy for me to wheel around my shop.
I had originally looked at machines like the Laguna and Jet, but they looked awkward and unwieldy to quickly move around. Oneida regularly has sales on various classes of dust extractors, it wouldn't hurt to call them and inquire if they have any sales coming up. RobBob Posts: I have been very happy with my Laguna Pflux Hepa 3hp. Some people claim that the shorter cyclone design used by Laguna and other manufacturers can reduce effective separation of fines from larger dust particles and cause the filter to clog faster.
This seems to only apply to the 3hp models and up.Learn More. Quick View. Add to Cart. Laguna - c flux 2 hp 1 Micron Cyclone. Laguna - p flux 1. Laguna - c flux 3 hp v Cyclone. Start here. This appears to be a nice dust collector. It took 6 hours to assemble. You will need to check you electrical panel before you start. You will need a 30 amp breaker to get 5his guy to run on I called out the electrician and he suggested running it on as it draws 8. The motor had a wiring diagram to switch it over so I said go for it. The motor will run on but the switch will not handle My electrician worked with Laguna to get the correct switch box.
My suggestion would be to step up and spend the extra money on a unit. It will save money in the long run.Reset svm password

Huxleywood Posts: Now the OP has established he has the height and lack of portability needs that allow most any of the hobby oriented cyclones it now comes to to a budget vs features vs efficacy vs fan curve vs ease of installation balance, the key here being this equation will be different for everyone. Quality 3rd party tests of all the available cyclones are near non-existent, the Wood magazine test of the CV is almost certainly based on a leaky system, it is too much of an outlier especially when it uses a known quality filter.
I get the short cyclones like the Laguna are a compelling solution, it is a one stop shop DC in a box. All the bells and whistles are built in and you don't have to moonlight as an electrician to get them up and running with a remote and bin sensors. Assuming no leaks the best way to test is a Dylos ALL the various flavors of DC will return air to the work space that is directly correlated with the quality of the filters.
These filters will last longer and allow acceptable flow longer with more surface area. The biggest place one can screw up picking a cyclone is poor filters, someone mentioned the Jet, the filters on the Jet are not HEPA. I know the Laguna is a neat package deal, some would call it stylish and if you follow Torben's lead even sexy but I subscribe to the idea that a cyclone is like a creepy uncle, best not seen or heard, build the cylone in, put your bin alarm on the outside and life in the shop is better, if you need sexy paint the cyclone "box" in grey and green and put framed pictures of a Domino in slinky dress on the walls.
Someone mentioned sound pressure levels from the manufacturers.Dust collection is very important in any woodwork shop. It not only keeps the shop clean and organized free of debris, woodwork chips, sawdust creating a pleasant healthy work environment.

Two excellent models to keep your workshop free of harmful dust. Dust is dangerous! It goes without saying that a dust-filled environment is not only uncomfortable, it is a known health hazard.
Over the years, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration OSHA have introduced numerous measures and legislation to ensure clean air in the workplace.
So, in many instances a cyclone dust collector is an absolute necessity.Dust Collection \
At home, these machines may not be a legal requirement. A shop vac can suffice for small amounts of dust, but nothing beats a powerful cyclone dust collector for the ultimate in convenience and clean air in your shop.
Before you set out in choosing the best cyclone dust collector for your shop or garage, you may have a long list of questions. Foremost on your mind, would probably be what size cyclone dust collector do you need?
How do you install a cyclone dust collector? There are a whole bunch of facts that you may not even have considered. When selecting a cyclone dust collector for your shop, you may think that horsepower HP is all you really need to look at.8 ways to use load sensing cartridge valves
Nothing could be further from the truth. The design of the machine, collection drum, and cubic feet per minute CFM are some of many factors to consider. They are all in a similar price range, with specs that differ in some ways. The largest model, the Grizzly, is a 3HP cyclone dust collector. So you should rather look carefully at the specs and features to determine which is going to be the best option for your shop.
There are many reasons why one could consider this machine to be one of the best cyclone dust collectors. There are no official noise level specs for this dust collector. This seems to indicate that the noise levels would be around 65dBA. While this cannot be confirmed I have not actually tested this claim myselfit is way quieter than most.
This is a distinct advantage, especially for home use. Generally, cyclone dust collectors are known to be noisy monsters.
The large electric motors are nowhere near quiet and the increased volume of air flow generates a considerable amount of noise. So the quiet operation is one of the biggest advantages to the Baileigh DC The large industrial-style 1-micron air filter makes the grade, but does not provide the finest filtration that you can get.
There are many filters that remove particles from the air down to a fraction of a micron. It can handle a large volume of dust and circulates clean dust-free air to your shop. The gallon drum may not be the biggest there is, but is perfectly capable of handling the requirements of a mid-sized shop without the need to empty it too often.
A conveniently placed handle at the side of the drum makes it easy to dislodge the dust that collects around the filter. This makes it simple to keep the filtration system working at its optimum capacity and not restrict air flow. The cyclonic system works quite efficiently to generate CFM air flow. I would presume that they have accounted for the static pressure SP at the intake ports.
